  • The Native Hawaiian Innovation Center is a 501(c)(3) Akiu Family Foundation that develops strategies and programs to provide easy access to free and affordable educational and innovative resources for students, teachers, veterans, service members, and their families.

The Akiu and Kawa’auhau Families

  • Pre-Kingdom is from Hilo and Ka'u, Hawaii, and believes that education should be accessible to everyone. We strive to support high-quality services that empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals.


  • In support of King Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli), who officially established Hawaii’s first public education system on October 15, 1840, with the motto "ʻO koʻu aupuni, he aupuni palapala" ("My kingdom shall be a kingdom of learning"), his educational reforms transformed Hawaiian society.

Future Inventors Program (FIP): Pālapala Hana Noʻeau Hou

  • The Future Inventors Program (FIP) introduces students from diverse backgrounds to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). 


  • Through their coursework, students gain knowledge in physics, aerodynamics, nanotechnology, robotics, navigation, and mapping.


  • By utilizing resources and working with trained experts, students can satisfy their curiosity, tackle challenges, and develop solutions.


  • The program aims to motivate inventors of dual-purpose technologies, turning their ideas into reality and empowering them to become confident inventors.

Future Farmers Program (FFP): Ka Polokalamu Mahiʻai O Ka Wā Mua

  • An agronomy program that inspires and integrates advanced technical sciences with business management to build resilient, modern operations for students, educators, future farmers, and local farms, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and green-technology systems tailored to minimize local costs while expanding production.


  • Provide education and training for local farmers, including beginners and those looking to scale up an existing operation, on technology collaboration.
